Hess’s Law Problem Video

Hess’s Law Problem

Heat of formation and Hess’s law problem and Video.

This video is an introduction into thermodynamics and explains heats of formation, and Hess’s law problem. In this problem  Hess’s law is used to determine the heat of formation of methane using heats of combustion of methane and heats of formation of water and carbon dioxide.

This is the problem that is being solved in the video.

Calculate the heat of formation or enthalpy of formation of one mole of methane CH4 from its elements if the heat of combustion or enthalpy of combustion of methane is -890 kJ/mol of methane. Standard enthalpies of formation of H2O and CO2 are -286 kJ/mol and -393.5 kJ/mol
